An Introduction

Principles and practices

Based on a series of video demonstrations, this module explores strategies for practitioners where fathers who are using violence present to their service. It explores a child-aware conversation that invites fathers to consider the effects of their violence on their children, and the meanings and implications of this for their responsibilities as a parent. The practice principles for working with mothers living with family and domestic violence are also explored.

Applying the PERCS Conversation Guide

This module explores the use of the PERCS Conversation Guide, in particular conversations around the five PERCS domains in a child’s life, when working with a mother in the context of FDV. It is based on a series of video demonstrations with a mother.

Anticipatory Guidance

This module explores important aspects of providing anticipatory guidance. It is specifically aimed at promoting positive social and emotional wellbeing in the children of parent-clients.

Conversations of Support

This module features fictional demonstrations between a practitioner and parent-client. It shows how to explore concerns and provide guidance, support, reassurance, and assistance to help the parent advance their child’s social and emotional wellbeing.

Anticipatory Guidance

This module explores important aspects of having conversations with parents that provide reassurance, guidance, information, or resources (anticipatory guidance) to assist in promoting positive mental health of their infant.

Conversations of Support

In this this module you will learn how to conduct a collaborative conversation with parents about their infant’s or toddler’s social and emotional wellbeing and to arrive at a shared understanding about issues or concerns. Module Two features fictional demonstrations between a practitioner and parent. It shows how to explore concerns and provide anticipatory guidance, support, and assistance to help parents advance infants’ and toddlers’ social and emotional wellbeing.
